Other name : "Sandwich Court" (Rocque, 1746).

It seems to be shown in O. and M. 1677, as a passage leading up to Devonshire House.

Strype calls it "Candish Court" (q.v.).

Named after the Earls of Devonshire, who occupied Devonshire House for some years, the family name being Cavendish.
