Walbrook, Street

A Dictionary of London by Henry A Harben.

South from Mansion House to Cannon Street (P.O. Directory). In Walbrook Ward.

Earliest mention: " Walbroke Street," 20 H. III. (L. and M. Arch. Soc. Trans. V. p. 398). "Walbrokstrate," 1291-2 (Cal. L. Bk. A. p.190). " Walebrokstret," 1297-8 (Ct. H.W. I. 131).

In a will of 1312-13 mention is made of rents in the parish of St. Antonin in "Walebrok Street " (Ct. H.W. I. 236).

No part of the present "Walbrook" lies in the parish of St. Antholin, and it is not easy to See how it could have extended into that parish, unless the parish boundaries have been altered subsequently.

"Called Walbrooke because it standeth on the east side of the same brooke by the banke thereof " (S. 226-7).
