Tenements in the parish of All Saints del Heywarf belonging to the heirs of Germ de Dougate are described as lying between the Guildhall of the Cologne Merchants west and " Wancelineslane " east, 19 H. III. (Anc. Deeds, A. 1791). Another clause in the deed, giving power of distress on land of the said Ger' formerly belonging to Wm. Bat in the said parish, describes the land as lying between land which belonged to Thedmar Teuton west and the lane " del Heywarf" east. Tenement in "Wauncelineslane," formerly of Girard Bat, 25 H. III. (Anc. Deeds, A. 2723).
As it seems highly probable that the land of Thedmar Teuton was identical with the site of the Guildhall of the Cologne Merchants, the terms of the deed suggest that" Wancelineslane" may be identified with the lane" del Heywarf" or" Haywharf Lane" (q.v.).
The name seems to be a personal name, probably from the owner of the lane or of property in it.
