1) a wooden bar; ab A. S. STANG. This word is still used in some colleges in the university of Cambridge ; to stang scholars in Christmas-time being to cause them to ride on a colt-staff, or pole, for missing of chapel. It is used likewise in the East Riding of Yorkshire, for the fourth part of an acre, a rood.
