an Australian black-and-whitebird ( Grallina picata, Lath.), resembling the Magpie inappearance, but smaller; called also Pee-wee, and Mudlark, from its building its nest of mud.

1888. Cassell's `Picturesque Australasia,' vol. ii. p. 235:
