the Australian bird Nycticorax caledonicus, Gmel. Both the Nankeen Bird andthe Nankeen Hawk are so called from their colour. Nankeen is «a Chinese fabric, usually buff, from the natural colour of acotton grown in the Nanking district» of China. (`Century.')
