or Marsupial Lion

n.

a large extinct Phalanger (q.v.), Thylacoleocarnifex, Owen. The popular name was given under the idea, derived from the presence of an enormous cutting-tooth, thatthe animal was of fierce carnivorous habits. But it is moregenerally regarded as closely allied to the phalangers, who arealmost entirely vegetarians.
