All species of Plagianthus and Hoheria are to the colonists Ribbonwood, especially Plagianthus betulinus,A. Cunn., and Hoheria populnea, A. Cunn., the bark ofwhich is used for cordage, and was once used for making ademulcent drink. Alpine Ribbon-wood, Plagianthuslyalli, Hook. Other popular names are Houhere, Houi (Maori), Lace-bark (q.v.), and Thousand-Jacket (q.v.).
