Amnisus

AMNI´SUS(Ἀμνισός, a town in the N. of Crete, and the harbour of Cnossus in the time of Minos, was situated at the mouth of a river of the same name (the modern Aposelemi). It possessed a sanctuary of Eileithyia, and the nymphs of the river, called Ἀμνισιάβεςand Ἀμνισίδες, were sacred to this goddess. (Hom. Od. 19.188; Strab. p. 476; Apollon. 3.877; Callim.
