BETH-JESIMOTH

Dictionary of Greek and Roman Geography

BETH-JESIMOTH (Eus. Βηθασιμούθ, LXX. Βαιτθασεινώθ, Ἀσειμώθ, Αἰσιμώθ), one of the last stations of the Israelites before crossing the Jordan, and near the Salt or Dead Sea ( Numb. 33.49; Josh. 12.3.) It was a city of the tribe of Reuben ( Josh. 13.20), afterwards occupied by the Moabites. ( Ezek. 25.9.) Eusebius confounds it with Jashimon (q. v.)
