BETHANY(Βηθανία), a village 15 stadia from Jerusalem, at the eastern foot of the Mount of Olives, remarkable for the raising of Lazarus, and for other incidents in our Saviour's life. ( St. John, 11.18.) Its modern name is El-Azarîyeh, i. e. the village of Lazarus. (Robinson, B.R. vol. 2. p. 100.)
