CASSIO´TIS(Κασσιῶτις), a district of northern Syria, containing, according to Ptolemy (Ptol. 5.15.16), the cities of ANTIOCHEIA, DAPHNE, BACTAIALLA, LYDIA, SELEUCEIA, EPIPHANEIA, RAPHANEA, ANTARADUS, MARATHUS, MARIAME,and MAMURGA.It probably was never considered as a political division (comp. Marquardt, Handbuch der Röm. Alt. p. 176), but was rather a district marked out by the natural features of the country. [SYRIA] (Chesney, Exped. Euphrat. vol. i.; Thomson, Bibl. Sacr. vol. v.)
