CHARMANDE(Χαρμάνδη,, Xen. Anab. 1.5.10; Steph. B. s. v.), a large and prosperous town according to Xenophon, between the river Mascas and the northern boundary of Babylonia, on the edge of the desert. Xenophon mentions that the soldiers of Cyrus crossed the Euphrates to it, on skins stuffed with light hay, and bought there palm, wine, and corn.
