Cogaeonum

Dictionary of Greek and Roman Geography

COGAEONUM(Κωγαιώνον), a mountain in the district of the Getae, which, from its connection with the legend of Zamolxis, was considered sacred. A river bearing the same name was in its neighbourhood. (Strab. 7. p. 298.) Neither the mountain nor the river can be identified, as it is uncertain whether we should look for them in the E. Carpathians or in the earlier settlements of the Getae, S. of the Ister. (Comp. Schafarik, Slavische Alterthum, vol. 1. p. 489.)
