CUMERUS a promontory of Picenum, on the coast of the Adriatic, still called Monte Comero. (Plin. Nat. 3.13. s. 18.) It is formed by a considerable mountain mass, rising close to the sea-shore, and nearly detached from the mountains of the interior, extending about 10 miles in length. At its northern extremity stood the city of Ancona and the smaller town of Numana ( Umana) at its southern end.
