DURE´TIET he Table places Duretie 29 Gallic leagues from Portu Namnetum (Nantes), on the road to Gesocribate ( Brest). The next station after Duretie is Dartoritum, which Ptolemy calls Dariorigum. [DARIORIGUM.] The distances in the Table cannot be trusted; and if they can, we must be sure about the direction of the Roman road between Nantesand Vannesbefore we can determine the position of Duretie. Some geographers place it at Roche Bernard, near the head of the aestuary of the Vilaine. D'Anville proposes to alter Duretie to Durerie, and he thinks that the second part of the word contains the word Herius, the name which Ptolemy gives to the Vilaine. The first part of the word Duretie is probably the common Celtic name Dur.
