EPOISSUM in North Gallia, is placed by the Antonine Itin. on the road from Durocortorum ( Reims) to Treveri Civitas ( Trier). It is 22 Gallic leagues from Durocortorum to Vungus Vicus ( Vonc), and 22 more to Epoissum ( Iptschor Ivois), now commonly called Carignan. Iptsch isthe German name, which comes from Evosium or Ivosium, the name used in the middle ages. In the Notitia Imp. the place is called Epusum, and was a station for troops.
