ETEO´NUS(Ἐτέωνος: Eth. Ἐτεώνιος), a town of Boeotia, mentioned by Homer, who gives it the epithet of πολύκνημος, lay to the right of the Asopus. Strabo says that it was afterwards called Scarphe. It probably lay between Scolus and the frontier of the territory of Tanagra. (Hom. Il. 2.497; Strab. ix. pp. 408, 409; Stat. Theb. 7.266; Steph. B. s. v.;Leake, Northern Greece, vol. 2. p. 332.)
