GEPHY´RA(Γέφυρα, Γφυρεῖς), a place in Attica at the bridge over the Cephissus, on the sacred road from Athens to Eleusis, where the initiated assailed passengers with vulgar abuse and raillery, hence called γεφυρισμοί. (Strab. 9. p. 404; Suid. s. v. Γεφυρίζων;Hesych. s. v. Γεφυρισταί. )
