ILERCA´ONES(Ἰλερκάονες, Ptol. 2.6. §§ 16, 64; Ilercaonenses. Liv. 22.21; Illurgavonenses, Caes. B.C. 1.60: in this, as in so many other Spanish names, the cand gare interchangeable), a people of Hispania Tarraconensis, occupying that portion of the sea-coast of EDETANIA which lay between the rivers UDUBA and IBERUST heir exact boundaries appear to have been a little to the N. of each of these rivers. They possessed the town of Dertosa ( Tortosa), on the left bank of the Iberus, and it was their chief city. [DERTOSA] Their other towns, according to Ptolemy, were:—ADEBA(Ἄδεβα : Amposta?), TIARIULIA(Τιαριουλία : Teari Julienses, ap. Plin. Nat. 3.3. s. 4: Trayguera), BISCARGTS(Βιο·καργίς;Biscargitani civ. Rom., Plin.: Berrus), SIGARRA(Σίγαρρα : Segarra, Marca, Hisp. 2.8), CARTHAGO VETUS(Καρχηδὼν παλαιά : Carta Vieja, Marca, ibid.), and THEAVA(Θεαύα). Ukert also assigns to them, on the N. of the Iberus, TRAJA CAPITA, OLEASTRUM, TARRACO,and other places, which seem clearly to have belonged to the COSETANIT he name of their country, ILERCAVONIA,occurs on the coins of their city IBERA
