Ivernis

Dictionary of Greek and Roman Geography

IVERNIS(Ἰουερνίς), mentioned by Ptolemy (Ptol. 2.2.10) as one of the inlandtowns of Ireland, the others being Rhigia, Rhaeba, Laberus, Macolicum, another Rhaeba, Dunum. Of these, Dunum has been identified with Down, and Macolicum with Mallow, on the strength of the names. Laberus, on similar but less satisfactory ground, == Kil-lairin West Meath. Ivernus is identified by O´Connor with Dun-keron, on the Kenmareriver; but the grounds on which this has been done are unstated.
