PARO´PUS(Πάρωπος: Eth. Paropinus), a town of Sicily mentioned by Polybius (Plb. 1.24) during the First Punic War, in a manner that seems to indicate its site between Panormus and Thermae (Termini). It is not noticed by any of the geographers except Pliny, who mentions it in his list of the stipendiary towns of Sicily (Plin. Nat. 3.8. s. 14); and in another passage (lb.§ 92) speaks of the island of Ustica as lying contra Paropinos.This is all the clue we have to its position, and its exact site cannot therefore be determined.
