Dictionary of Greek and Roman Geography

PETRIA´NA a fortress in the N. of Britannia Romana, between the Wall and the river Irthing, where the Ala Petriana was quartered. Camden (p. 1020) identifies it with Old Penrith;but Horsley ( Brit. Romn. p. 107) and others fix it, with more probability, at Cambeck Fortor Castle-steeds. ( Not. Imp. ) It is called Banna by the Geogr. Ray. (Horsley, p. 498.)
