PHTHIRA(Φθίρα,) Steph. B. s. v.; written Φθίρin Meineke's edition of Stephanus), a mountain in Caria, inhabited by the Phthires, is evidently the same as the Φθειρῶν ὄροςof Homer (Hom. Il. 2.868), which, according to Hecataeus, was identical with Mt. Latmus, but which others supposed to be the same as Mt. Grius, running parallel to Mt. Latmus. (Strab. 14. p. 635.)
