PROTA(Πρῶτα), one of a group of small islands in the east of the Propontis, not far from Chalcedon. (Steph. B. s. v. Χαλκῖτις.) Its distance from Chalcitis was 40 stadia, and it is said still to bear the name of Prote. [L.S]
