Rhocca

Dictionary of Greek and Roman Geography

RHOCCA(Ῥόκκα), a town of Crete, where there was a temple to Artemis Rhoccaea (Aelian, N. A. 12.22). Pococke (vol. 2. p. 247) found remains at the village which still bears the name of Rhokka, to the S. of the ancient Methymna; and there can be little doubt but that this is the site of Rhocca, which, as is shown by Aelian (N. A. 14.20), was near Methymna (Höck, Kreta, vol. 1. p. 391; Pashley, Crete, vol. 2. p. 41.)
