SAGU´NTIA
1. （Σαγαυντία,Ptol. 2.4.13), a town in the SW. part of Hispania Baetica. (Liv. 34.12; Plin. Nat. 3.1. s. 3.) Now Xigonzaor Gigonza, NW. from Medina Sidonia, where there are many ruins. (Morales, Antig. p. 87; Florez, Esp. Sagr. 10. p. 47.)
2. A town of the Arevaci, in Hispania Tarraconensis, SW. from Bilbilis. It was in the jurisdiction of Clunia, on the road from Emerita to Caesaraugusta, and was the scene of a battle between Sertorius and Metellus. (Plut. Sert. 21; App. BC 1.110.) The name is written Segontia in the Itin. Ant. pp. 436 and 438. and in the Geog. Rav. 4.43; but must not be confounded with that of a town of the Celtiberi. Now Siguenzaon the Henarez. (Florez, Esp.
