SAMARIANE a town of Hyrcania, mentioned by Strabo (11. p. 508). It is no doubt the same as that called Samaranne by Ptolemy (Ptol. 6.9.2), and by Ammianus Marcellinus, Saramanna (23.6). It cannot be identified with any modern place.[V]
