SCA´LABIS a town of Lusitania, on the road from Olisipo to Emerita and Bracara. ( Itin. Ant. pp. 420, 421.) Pliny (Plin. Nat. 4.21. s. 35) calls it a Roman colony, with the surname Praesidium Julium, and the seat of one of the three conventus juridiciof Lusitania. It is undoubtedly the same place which Ptolemy (Ptol. 2.5.7) erroneously calls Σκαλαβίσκος, which is probably a corruption of Σκαλαβίς κολ. (κολωνία) The modern Santarem. (Cf.
