SEROTA a town on the frontier between Upper and Lower Pannonia, on the right bank of the river Dravus. ( It. Ant. p. 130; It. Hieros. p. 562; Geog. Rav. 4.19, where it is called Sirore, while the Table calls it Sirota.) It is possible that this town may have belonged to the tribe of the Serretes mentioned by Pliny (Plin. Nat. 3.28) as inhabiting a part of Pannonia. The town of Serota is commonly identified with the modern Veröczeor Verovits.
