Socanaa

SOCANAA or SOCANDA(Σωκανάαor Σωκάνδα), a small river of Hyrcania, noticed by Ptolemy (Ptol. 6.9.2). It is probably the present Gurgan. Ammianus Marcellinus speaks of a place called Socunda, on the shores of the Hyrcanian or Caspian sea (23.6).
