SO´LLIUM(Σόλλιον: Eth. Σολλιεύς), a town on the coast of Acarnania, on the lonian sea. Its exact site is uncertain, but it was probably in the neighbourhood of Palaerus, which lay between Leucas and Alyzia. [PALAERUS] Leake, however, places it S. of Alyzia, at Stravolimióna(i. e. Port Stravo). Sollium was a Corinthian colony, and as such was taken by the Athenians in the first year of the Peloponnesian War (B.C. 431), who gave both the place and its territory to Palaerus. It is again mentioned in B.C. 426, as the place at which Demosthenes landed when he resolved to invade Aetolia. (Thuc. 2.30, 3.95, comp. 5.30; Steph. B. s. v. Leake, Northern Greece, vol. 4. p. 18, seq.)
