III. Benzoin ·noun A resinous substance, dry and brittle, obtained from the Styrax benzoin, a tree of Sumatra, Java, ·etc., having a fragrant odor, and slightly aromatic taste. It is used in the preparation of benzoic acid, in medicine, and as a perfume.
