commonly pronounced desput, and used to denote exceedingly; as "I'm desput glad to see you." Bad as this use and pronunciation of this word are, they are both to be found in England. Mr. Hamilton notices this word among the provincialisms of Yorkshire; as, "Thou's desperate hopeful!"-Nugæ Literariæ, p. 353.
