an Australian grass, Astrebla elymoides, A. triticoides, F. v. M., N.O. Gramineae. Two other species of Astreblaare also called «Mitchell-grasses.» See Grass.

«Used for food by the natives. The most valuable fodder-grassof the colony. True Mitchell-grass.»

1889. J. H. Maiden, `Useful Native Plants,' p. 78:

«Mitchell-grass. The flowering spikes resemble ears of wheat.

. . . It is by no means plentiful.»
