ARCHAEO´POLIS(Ἀρχαιόπολις), a city of Colchis, on the borders of Iberia, in a very strong position on a rock near the river Phasis. At the time of the Byzantine empire, it was the capital of the Lazic kingdom. (Procop. B. G. 4.13; Agath. 3.5, 8,17.)
