Crocodeilon

Dictionary of Greek and Roman Geography

CROCODEILON a river of Syria, near which there was formerly a town of the same name (Κροκοδείλων πόλις), between Caesarea Palaestinae and Ptolemaïs (Strab. 16. p. 758; Plin. Nat. 5.17. s. 19). It is now identified with the Náhr Zerka, in which, according to Pococke ( Trav. vol. 2. p. 58.), crocodiles have been found. (Von Raumer, Palästina, pp. 53, 191.)
