Cynamolgi

Dictionary of Greek and Roman Geography

CYNAMOLGI(Κυναμολγοί, Diod. 3.31), a barbarous tribe in the south of Aethiopia, of whom the most probable account that can be given is that they were a race of herdsmen who guarded their cattle by a breed of fierce dogs. Pliny (Plin. Nat. 6.35) confounds them with the Cynocephali or race of apes with the heads of dogs.
