DAORSI, DAORIZI(Δαόριζοι, Strab. 7. p. 315), a people of Illyricum, who lived on the banks of the Naro. (Strab. l. c.) They were allied with the Romans (comp. Liv. 45.26), and a quarrel between them and the Dalmatians gave a colourable pretext to the republic for its invasion of Dalmatia in B.C. 156. (Plb. 32.24.) Pliny (Plin. Nat. 3.26) describes their territory as being parcelled out into seventeen small divisions, which he calls decuriae. They must have possessed some importance, as a coin has been found with the epigraph of this people, of the same workmanship and type as those of Gentius, king of Illyricum. (Eckhel, vol. 1. p. 155; Rasche, vol. ii. pt. 1. p. 51.)
