DIVI´TIA(Deutz), a fort opposite to Colonia Agrippina ( Cologne), which was erected for the purpose of protecting the bridge across the Rhine, and was occupied by a permanent garrison ( milites Divitienses;Ammian. 26.7, 27.1.) In the middle ages it was called Duizia, whence the modern name Deutz.
