Garumni

Dictionary of Greek and Roman Geography

GARUMNI an Aquitanian people mentioned by Caesar. [GARITES] It may be inferred from the name that they were on the Garumna. A. de Valois supposes that they occupied a tract now called Rivièrealong the Garonne, to the north of the Convenae, or of the diocese of St. Bertrand de Comminge, as far as the borders of the diocese of Rieux. This conjecture is accepted by D'Anville and other writers; and it may be true. But there is no direct evidence that it is true.
