I´SMARUS(Ἴσμαρος), a mountain rising on the east of lake Ismaris, on the south coast of Thrace (Virg. El. 6.30, Georg. 2.37; Propert. 2.13. 5. 3.12. 25 ; Lucret. 5.31, where it is called Ismara, as in Verg. A. 10.351.) Homer (Hom. Od. 9.40,198) speaks of Ismarus as a town of the Cicones, on or at the foot of the mountain. (Comp. Marc. Heracl. 28.) The name of the town also appears in the form Ismaron. (Plin. Nat. 4.18.) The district about Ismarus produced wine which was highly esteemed. (Athen. 1. p. 30; Ov. Met. 9.641; Steph. B. s. v.)
