Dictionary of Greek and Roman Geography

MARISUS(Μάρισος, Strab. 7.304; Μάρις, Hdt. 4.49; Marisia, Jornand. de Reb. Get. 5; Geogr. Rav.), a river of Dacia, which both Herodotus (l. c.) and Strabo (l. c.) describe as falling into the Danube; it is the same as the Marosch, which falls into the Theiss. (Heeren, Asiat. Nations, vol. 2. p. 10, trans.; Schafarik, Slav. Alt. vol. 1. p. 507.)
