Pons Tiluri

Dictionary of Greek and Roman Geography

PONS TILURI a station on the road from Sirmium to Salona, in the interior of Dalmatia. ( Itin Anton.;Tilurium, Peut. Tab.;Geogr. Ray. 4.16.) It may be identified with the passage of the river Cettinaor Tsettina(Tilurus), at Trigl, with the opposite height of Gardun, where there are vestiges of a Roman town, which was probably the colony of AEQUUM(Αἰκοῦον κόλ., Ptol. 2.16(17). § 11; Itin. Anton.; Pent. Tab.;Orelli, Inscr. 502), where an inscription has been found commemorating the restoration of the bridge under the name of PONS HIPPI,—a Graecised form of the Latin name of the town, which was sometimes spelt as Equum. (Wilkinson, Dalmatia, vol. 1. p. 238; Neigebaur, Die Sud-Slaven, p. 178.)
