Saso

SASO(Σασώ, Ptol. 3.13.47; Σασών, Strab. 6. p. 281), a small, rocky island, lying off the coast of Grecian Illyria, N. of the Acroceraunian promontory, and possessing a landing-place which served as a station for pirates. (Comp. Plb. 5.110; Mela, 2.7; Plin. Nat. 3.26. s. 30; Itin. Ant. p. 489.) It is still called Saseno, Sassono, or Sassa.
