Dictionary of Greek and Roman Geography

SHAVEH(LXX. Vat. ἡ κοιλὰς τοῦ Σαβύ, Alex. ἡ Σαυή). The valley of Shaveh, which is the king's dale, where Melchizedek met Abraham returning from the slaughter of the kings. ( Gen. 14.17.) The learned are not agreed concerning the city of Melchizedek. They who regard his Salem as identical with Jerusalem, naturally identify the king's dale, equivalent to the valley of Shaveh, with the king's dalewhere Absalom erected his monument (2 Sam. 18.18), and place it in the vicinity of the king's gardens,in the valley of the Kedron, where tradition points out Absalom's handor place.
