THETI´DIUM(Θετίδιον, Strab. 9. p. 431; Plb. 18.3, 4; Θετίδειον, Eurip. Androm. 20; Θεστίδειον, Steph. B. s. v.: Eth. Θετιδεύς), a place in Thessaly, close to Pharsalus, where Flamininus encamped at the end of the second march from Pherae towards Scotussa, before the battle of Cynoscephalae. It derived its name from Thetis, the mother of Achilles, the national hero of the Achaean Phthiotae. Leake places it at or near Magúla, on the opposite bank of the Enipeus.
