TRA´GILUS(Τράγιλος: Eth. Τραγιλεύς, Steph. B. s. v.), a town of Macedonia, and doubtless the same as the Βράγιλοςor Δράγιλοςfound in Hierocles (p. 639) among the towns of the first or consular Macedonia. In the Table there is a place Triulomarked as 10 miles from Philippi. This is apparently a corruption of Traelio, since numerous coins (one of which is figured below) have been found near Amphipolis with the inscription ΤΡΑΙΛΙΩΝLeake conjectures with much probability that the real name was Tragilus, and that in the local form of the name the r may have been omitted, so that the ΤΠΑΙΛΙΩΝof the coin may represent the Hellenic Τραγιλίων. (Eckhel, vol. 2. p. 81; Leake, Northern Greece, vol. 3. p. 228.) COIN OF TRAGILUS OR TRAELIUS.
