Ācrŏcĕraunĭa, ōrum, n. [fr. ἄκρις and κεραυνός; pr. Thunder-Heights],

a very rocky promontory in Epirus , running out into the Ionian Sea , now Glossa , called by the Italians Linguetta (the mountain to which it belongs was called Ceraunii montes or Ceraunia; see this art.): infamīs scopulos Acroceraunia, Hor. C. 1, 3, 20; the same in sing.: promontorium Acroceraunium, Plin. 3, 11, 15, § 97; for any dangerous place : haec tibi sint Syrtes; haec Acroceraunia vita, Ov. R. Am. 739.
