the Bacchiadae , a very ancient royal family of Corinth , descended from Bacchis , one of the Heraclidae , which , being expelled from the throne by Cypselus , wandered to Sicily , and founded Syracuse , Ov. M. 5, 407; Plin. 35, 12, 43, § 152 (cf. Aelian, V. H. 1, 19; Pausan. Corinth. p. 120; Strabo, 8, p. 260).
